Hiking & Bird Watching

Explore the natural habitat of the Cayman Islands by walking the Mastic Tail. The trail is was a footpath that was used long ago that cuts across the island's North coast. The trail meanders through the last tracts of primary evergreen woodland left on Grand Cayman.

The trail is not for everyone, it is three hours long, two miles in length, and requires a certain degree of fitness in order to climb "The Mountain" the highest peak on Grand Cayman.

The many species of rare birds, reptiles, iguanas, and plants are waiting to be discovered by you. Look for the Banana Orchids with their yellow leaves, and count how many you find. Here's a hint, a lot of them grow out of the bark of the ancient trees. If you walk softly, you may run across a Blue Iguana, or see a bright green Cayman Parrot flying through the trees.

Long pants and comfortable shoes are a must for all adventure seekers!
